Boulder County Area Agency on Aging Offers Trainings for Family and Informal Caregivers
Interested residents and participants can find upcoming trainings that best fit caregiving needs
Boulder, Colo. – The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA) empowers and supports caregivers and their care partners through their caregiving journey. A caregiver is someone who partners with or supports a person who needs help managing their health and other aspects of life. Programs are offered to caregivers of any age who assist a person age 60 or older, or of any age if the care recipient has dementia. BCAAA offers many special events and continuing programs, which are listed below.
Caregiver Community Conversation
Boulder County is experiencing a major change in its population: the proportion of older adult residents is greater and growing faster than ever before. The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging and our municipal partners are bringing residents and stakeholders together to discuss how to better support active and healthy aging for all in the community. Join for a Community Conversation to discuss what works well for older adults in Boulder County and what service and resource gaps need to be addressed.

Hero’s Journey of the Caregiver
This course provides participants with tools to help ensure that they thrive, not just survive, during their caregiving journey. This course is inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell, a scholar who popularized various theories on hero myth narratives. Using a multimedia approach (video clips, art, poetry), the class will offer opportunities for the inner hero to show up in caregiving and ultimately move through obstacles on this journey.

Living Well with Dementia
The Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado and the BCAAA are offering an afternoon of programs providing hope and information for people living with dementia and their family/informal care partners. The program includes Important Considerations, Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors, The Nature of Nature is Change, and a panel discussion.

Dealing with Dementia
Family and informal caregivers are the backbone of community-based services. To support local caregivers of people with dementia, the BCAAA is offering this workshop which was developed by the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving. This workshop provides effective strategies for dealing with dementia behaviors, providing tips and strategies for caregivers on best practices for caring for their loved ones and themselves.

Caregiver Education Series
BCAAA's Caregiver Education Series continues over the last quarter of the year with “Our Family, Our Way – How to talk about family caregiving” on Oct. 11, “What Caregiving Need to Know About Medicare” on Nov. 1, and “Assistive Technology: Gadgets and Gizmos for Caregivers” on Dec. 13.
