Hiker with injured ankle in area of Royal Arch

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Monday, July 4, 2022 at approximately 09:20 AM, Boulder County Communications was notified of a hiker who had injured her ankle in the area of the Royal Arch, just west of Boulder, Colorado.

The 25-year-old female was hiking down from the Royal Arch when she stepped on a loose rock, rolling her ankle. As a result of the injury she was unable to bear weight and needed assistance back to the trailhead.

Rescuers from the City of Boulder Open-Space Mountain Parks and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded and provided medical care to the injured party. The hiker was packaged into a full body vacuum splint and a litter. Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks Rangers conducted a technical evacuation, bringing the injured hiker out to a road access point. The hiker declined additional medical care and was given a courtesy ride to her vehicle. She was transported from the scene by a friend for further care.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Fire Department, American Medical Response, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open-Space Mountain Parks Rangers.
