Two hikers assisted following dehydration concerns

Boulder County, Colo. -On Saturday, August 18, 2021, at approximately 2:42 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff's Office was notified of a 61-year-old female hiker from Westminster, CO, who was suffering from dehydration and exertion on the Dowdy Draw/Flatirons Vista Trail southwest of Boulder.

Members of the Mountain View Fire Protection District and the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks located the hiker approximately .8 miles from the end of the drivable road out of the Flatirons Vista Trailhead. Rescuers assisted in re-hydrating the hiker and then placed her in a litter and carried her to an ambulance, where she was then transported to a Boulder area hospital for further evaluation. The rescue took approximately one in half hours.

The second rescue began with a call to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office at approximately 8:30 p.m., referencing a climber descending from the back of the Third Flatiron and began suffering from dehydration. Rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group located the hikers on the south side of the Third Flatiron. The 25-year-old male from Columbia, MO, was treated with fluids and assisted to the Bluebell Shelter, where he was released on his own recognizance. The rescue took approximately two hours.

Agencies assisting with these rescue efforts included: Boulder County Sheriff's Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, the Mountain View Fire Protection District, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
