Adult female saved by deputies threating to jump off overpass

Boulder County, Colo. - On March 21, 2021, at approximately 8:49 PM, the Boulder County Communications Center received multiple phone calls regarding an adult female sitting on the McCaslin Boulevard bridge over the Boulder Turnpike in the Town of Superior, Boulder County, Colorado that looked like she was going to jump. Within minutes deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Louisville Police Department, and a trooper with the Colorado State Patrol arrived. A trooper was first able to make verbal contact with the female from under the bridge and heard her yelling that she had a gun, threatened to jump off the bridge, and harm anyone that came near her.

Officers from the Boulder Police Department and Broomfield Police Department assisted with shutting down east and westbound lanes of traffic on the Boulder Turnpike. First responders shut down north and southbound lanes of McCaslin Boulevard.

Deputies and an officer from the Louisville Police Department safely made verbal contact with the female from a distance. Due to the weather and visibility, first responders could not determine if the female was armed and never saw a handgun.

Firefighters and paramedics from the Mountain View Fire Department and Louisville Fire Department staged nearby and assisted with traffic control. First responders trained in crisis intervention training attempted to talk the female off the ledge; however, after approximately 20 minutes of unsuccessful negotiations, first responders quickly moved in and pulled the female safely off the ledge without injury and found to only be armed with a pocket knife. The female was transported to a local hospital by medical personnel.

The quick actions and decisiveness by first responders undoubtedly saved the female's life.
