Hikes and Events Open Space Calendar

Join the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance and Boulder County Parks & Open Space for a morning of riding the beginner and kid friendly trails at Heil Valley Ranch. This event will have mini-skills clinics, route suggestions, bike decorating materials, and educational information. This event is recommended for families with kids ages 3 to 10. Free loaner kids' mountain bikes will be available, or you can bring your own mountain bike and helmet. Guided rides with Boulder Mountainbike Alliance for all ages start at 9:30 and depart every half hour. Come anytime between 9 a.m. to noon for bike decorating and independent exploration of the trails. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required. Register

What's better than an early morning fall hike? An early morning fall hike followed by pancakes! Join us for a morning hike around the lake to welcome the season. Look for signs of fall in the trees and on the ground, breathe in the crisp air, and take in the views. After your hike, join us at the shelter for some pancakes with fruit. Hike a half-mile, a mile, or more, or skip the hike and relax with us at the shelter. Hiking and pancake eating are not required but are encouraged. Step back in time with us and celebrate 50 years of community! Join us anytime between noon and 3 p.m. for a nostalgic afternoon at the historic Walker Ranch Homestead, where the past comes alive in honor of our 50th anniversary! Enjoy an old-fashioned vintage baseball game played by 19th-century rules, as the local Walker Ranchers take on a team from the Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association. It’s baseball like you’ve never seen it, set against the beautiful backdrop of this preserved homestead. As we celebrate 50 years of history, nature, and community, don't forget to stop by for special 50th anniversary swag and information about our milestone year. That’s not all, costumed volunteers will be on hand to share historic games, chores, and stories of ranch life from the past, offering hands-on fun for all ages. Join volunteer naturalists on a mostly flat, 3-mile, out-and-back hike to the aspen groves at Caribou Ranch. While resting among the trees, we will practice mindful observation. Learn what we have discovered about aspens, mindfulness, and the natural world, and what remains unknown. In this class, you’ll learn about how they inspire mythology, how they interact with humans, and how they socialize within flocks and family groups. Join our volunteer naturalists for an easy-paced hike. Open to seniors 60 and older. Explore the stunning colors that the change of seasons brings to Mud Lake. We'll go on a 1-mile leisurely walk around the lake in search of the aspen trees that change colors from green to vibrant shades of yellow and orange.
