Time Commitment and Minimum Age:

Approximately 2 hrs/week for a minimum six month commitment. PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Locations throughout the county; volunteer may specify area of service.

Program Summary:

Volunteers, once trained, are paired one-on-one with older adults who either live alone or with a family or informal caregiver. During weekly two-hour visits, they provide friendship, reassurance and companion level assistance with activities such as conversation, reading, shopping and social outings. No hands-on care required. If the older adult lives with a caregiver, these visits enable that person to take a much-needed break.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Successful completion of three hour training; on-going weekly visits with an elder, and a minimum six-month commitment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

People 21 years and older who are compassionate, open-minded, and interested in spending time with an older adult, will submit to a background check, and can make a six-month commitment.

Training Dates and Information:

Trainings are held about every seven weeks throughout the year in alternating locations within the county.
