Jail Health Services

Jail Health Services

Medical

The medical unit is staffed by professional Nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The jail Nurses and EMT’s complete intake assessments on every inmate booked into the jail. The purpose of the intake screen is to ensure that the inmate is healthy enough to be safely housed in the jail. There are three medication passes during the day during which the Nurses and EMT’s take medication carts into the inmate housing units and administer medications. The Nurses and EMT’s provide inmates with necessary medical treatments and respond to urgent acute care needs throughout the day. Doctor rounds take place two times weekly. Inmates with medical issues are scheduled during clinic time to be seen and treated by the jail Physician.

Mental Health

The mental health unit is part of the medical unit. Mental Health Clinicians and Case Managers are available 7 days a week to provide mental health evaluations and oversight. Mental health rounds are held 4 days per week by the jail clinical Psychiatrist and the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Dental

A Dental Technician is available four days per week where they complete dental assessments and x-rays. Inmates are then scheduled one day per week with the jail Dentist for specific dental procedures.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Treatment for Opioid Addiction is a critical component of healthcare in a correctional facility. Our comprehensive treatment program offers a variety of medications, group and individual therapy as well as re-entry services for treatment in the community for those inmates who have moderate to severe opioid addiction. Naloxone (Narcan) is medication used to reverse the effects of opioids in an overdose. It is provided to inmates upon release from jail to reduce the risk of death by overdose.
