Board of Review

Board of Review (BOR)

By statutory authority, the Boulder County Board of Review hears and decides technical appeals to the interpretation of the Boulder County Building Code Amendments, which apply in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County, not in incorporated cities or towns. The Board of Review looks at proposed building code amendments and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners’ prior to adoption. Board of Review meetings occur as needed on the last Wednesday of each month. Special meetings are also scheduled as needed. To receive meeting notifications, subscribe to Boulder County’s email or text updates on the Building Code Amendments.

The Board of Review consists of three appointed members. Each member’s term shall be three years and until a member’s respective successor has been appointed.

BOCC Public Hearing – Docket BORC-26-0001, Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m.

A public hearing was held before the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners for staff to present proposed updates to the Bolder County Building Code related to Wildfire Resilience, including Ignition-resistant materials, construction standards and defensible space requirements. These updates are intended to align the county’s regulations with the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code as approved by the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code Board.

Docket BORC-22-0001: Ignition Resistant Requirements for Construction in Wildfire Zone 2 (the Eastern Half of Boulder County)
Ron Flax, Deputy Director of Community Planning & Permitting/Chief Building Official, presented a proposed update to the ignition resistant construction requirements for construction in Wildfire Zone 2 (the Eastern half of Boulder County). This update is focused on exterior materials and construction details to be considered by the Board of Review for inclusion into the Boulder County Building Code Amendments to the currently adopted 2015 International Codes, and ask for input and feedback from board members and the public. This update has been prompted by lessons learned from the recent Marshall Fire. The Boulder County Building Code Amendments apply to unincorporated areas of Boulder County, not in incorporated cities or towns. The Board of Review recommended approval of this adoption request to the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners. The Commissioners heard this docket on May 12, 2022.
