Living Electric
Two animated bears are visible through a window, sitting inside a brick home while staying warm thanks to an electric heat pump sitting to the right of the window. "Living Electric" is written to the left of the window, in glowing neon yellow text.

Living Electric in Boulder County

Did you know the appliances, design, and fuel choices of your home can affect its overall health and comfort? Choosing all-electric appliances, including highly efficient heat pump technologies, leads to benefits like healthier indoor air quality, increased resistance to future wildfires and smoke damage, fewer maintenance concerns, reduced energy costs, and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

Scroll down to learn more about electric alternatives to fossil-fuel appliances and equipment, and how Boulder County can help you go electric.

Heating and Cooling with Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are a tested-and-true electric HVAC technology that both heat and cool buildings of any size, without the toxic air pollution created by gas-powered alternatives. With proper insulation, they are more efficient than air conditioners and furnaces and can cut down your electric bill. Boulder County has income-qualified and standard rebates available for homes and businesses looking to go electric:

Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat pump water heaters (HPWH) use heat pump technology to draw in heat from the air to heat up water. They are 2 to 3 times more efficient than standard electric resistance water heaters, reducing your annual energy costs for hot water by 67%. Compared to Energy Star gas water heaters, heat pump water heaters are about five times as efficient and create half the carbon pollution–for about the same annual energy costs.

Electric Kitchens

All-electric kitchen equipment, like electric ovens and induction or electric resistance stoves, keep toxic pollutants out of your indoor air. Induction technology is also the most efficient way to cook food, with over 90% of its energy going directly into cooking, keeping your kitchen cooler than other types of stoves.

Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Walking, biking, busing, or using a carshare service are the most sustainable transportation options for getting around. For when you need a car, EVs are a great, low-emissions alternative to gas- or diesel-powered cars–and are now more popular and affordable than ever.

Electric Bikes (eBikes)

Electric bicycles, or e-Bikes, provide riders with a speed boost through an electric motor, making it possible to bike greater distances and up steeper inclines, get to your destinations quickly without getting sweaty, and more! They are also more accessible to people of different ages and abilities than manual bikes.

Electric Landscaping Equipment

Operating a commercial gas-powered lawn mower for one hour emits as much pollution as driving a new sedan from Los Angeles to Las Vegas – a trip that takes more than four hours. Electric alternatives are more reliable than ever, and Coloradans can access financial incentives so that an electric upgrade won’t break the bank.

Electric Snow Removal

Winter storms can mean snowy, icy sidewalks and driveways for weeks, so many Coloradans turn to power tools to clear out snow accumulation. Electric snow blowers and shovels are a great option to easily clean up snow, without needing to breathe in gas fumes (or take a trip to the gas station when the roads are a mess).
