Why is there no planet between Mars and Jupiter? Explore the story of the asteroid belt and how Jupiter shaped this busy region of space. With Mars and Jupiter appearing close together, volunteer naturalists will guide a discussion about solar system history and the rocky leftovers orbiting our Sun. Presentations will be at the picnic shelter, followed by stargazing in the parking area. The Longmont Astronomical Society provides telescopes. Join us for an easy and short walk around Lagerman Reservoir as we look for the migrating hawks and eagles dotting the landscape. Learn with volunteer naturalists where our birds of prey go in the fall and winter and how travelers and visitors from up north make their home in Boulder County for the season. The walk will start and end at the shelter and viewing opportunities will be provided there as well. The trail is 1.6 miles long with no places to sit and is exposed to the sun and wind.
