This unique bird walk at Heil Valley Ranch offers insight into fire ecology and its impact on local bird populations. We will discuss the role of fire in shaping the landscape and how birds adapt and even thrive after a fire. Bring a pair of binoculars and your trusty field guide. Registration for most programs begins on the 20th of the month before the event. Registration required. Drop by anytime during the open house to go inside the historic schoolhouse where students studied and played from 1880 to the World War II era. Volunteers will be on hand to share the school’s history and restoration with visitors. If time allows, you can take part in a game or spelling bee. Park at the Corral Trailhead at Heil Valley Ranch and hike 10 minutes on Schoolhouse Loop to the Altona School. Registration not required.
