Public Reports
When an officer-involved shooting occurs that results in injury or death, a request may be made by the District Attorney to the Boulder County Grandy Jury to investigate the matter. The Grand Jury proceedings are confidential. The Grand Jury decides whether an indictment should be issued: if probable cause exists that a crime was committed.
After a thorough investigation, the Grand Jury can either: issue a “True Bill” reporting probable cause exists for an indictment, issue a “No True Bill” reporting no probable cause exists for an indictment, or issue a “No True Bill” reporting no probable cause exists for an indictment and a public report detailing the findings of their investigation.
