2013 Flood Recovery - Public and Private

As of February 2017 the county has updated projected spending for recovery following the 2013 Flood. The county initially estimated that recovery would cost approximately $217 million up-front for flood recovery repairs over 5 years. The new projected spending costs are estimated to hit $297M and the timeline may be slightly extended. State and federal agencies will reimburse approximately 87% of this cost, leaving Boulder County responsible for $56 million in “local match” expenses.

The costs listed above are only part of the recovery equation. Many residents have incurred personal costs for their own private recovery. These costs may be in the form of repairs to their home or property, losses of income for businesses, or a number of other issues. Boulder County has been working directly with residents to distribute Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to help offset these costs. All flood-affected residents were encouraged to apply for CDBG-DR funds and the county then prioritized residents by moving the most at-risk, low-income residents to receive aid first.
