Child Protection Review Teams -- CPRT

The final CPRT meeting has taken place. No additional reviews will be scheduled.

Recent legislation, Concerning the Optional Creation of a Child Protection Team by a County, was enacted to address the evolution of the child welfare system and to recognize the multiple layers of review that now exist across child welfare systems.

Since the creation of Child Protection Review Teams, the State has mandated additional processes to review our work. For example, the State Administrative Review Division reviews random samples of all of our Assessments, In-home Cases and Out-of-Home Cases every six months. We get robust feedback from them about how to improve our work. Our work is also overseen by the Office of Colorado’s Child Protection Ombudsman. Additionally, we have several local staffing processes that we bring challenging cases to and involve community partners in those meetings.

After a review of all of the oversight processes and their redundancies, we made the joint decision to no longer hold the CPRT. These meetings will end Aug. 9, when the new rules go into place. We want to express our deep gratitude to all of our community and agency partners who have volunteered to participate in these meetings (some of you for many years). We also want to express our gratitude to the agencies that have supported your staff time dedicated to this work with us. And, we want to thank Diane Ludwig for her skillful facilitation of these meetings and for all the work she has done recruiting and training team members over the years, and recognize the work of Jackie Antoine for her dedication of years to this work before her retirement. Both Jackie and Diane have been amazing partners in this work.
