Boulder County administers the Keep It Clean Partnership (KICP), an organization comprised of the cities of Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, and Lafayette, the town of Superior, and the county. Originally, KICP focused only on stormwater management, but in recent years has expanded focus to broader watershed health efforts.
KICP’s programming includes:
- stormwater management training,
- watershed health monitoring, and
- community outreach focused on promoting positive watershed behaviors among residents.

KICP History
In 1999, a group of stormwater professionals in the Boulder St. Vrain Watershed started the Watershed Approach to Stream Health (WASH) Project. In the early 2000s, WASH ran the “Keep it Clean ‘cause we’re all downstream” campaign, which eventually led to the organization changing its name to the Keep it Clean Partnership (KICP). Programming focused on three primary stormwater pollutants: trash, pet waste, and lawn care.
Since 2015, KICP has coordinated a collaborative water monitoring program for the watershed, releasing annual water quality reports. More recently, KICP has expanded offerings to include a series of updated educational resources, which include information specific to the Boulder St. Vrain watershed as well as broader watershed health.
