Fourmile Canyon Fire
Fire destruction from the Fourmile Canyon Fire

The Fourmile Canyon Fire

The Fourmile Canyon Fire was first reported around 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 – Labor Day. Due to extremely low humidity and high winds on that date, the fire spread quickly and burned out of control for many hours into the next day.

Insurance claims for the fire totaled an estimated $217 million, making it the most expensive wildfire in Colorado history at that time. The 169 homes destroyed were the most by any wildfire in Colorado history until that total was surpassed by the High Park fire in June 2012, and then by the Waldo Canyon fire later in June 2012, and then by the Marshall Fire in December 2020.

Reports on the activity and damage from the Fourmile Canyon Fire is available on the US Forest Service website and Wildfire Today website.
