Program Summary:

Get trained by a wildlife biologist to track the effects of climate, fire, and deer and elk foraging on shrub health at Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain.

The information gathered helps determine how to best manage the land for ecological health and wildlife habitat.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work in the field monitoring shrub for evidence of activity by elk and deer at Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain. Volunteers will measure the year’s annual growth on the growing stems of the plants, as well as measure the overall plant height and condition.

Volunteers will work in groups of two or more.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Volunteers must be 18 or older.
  • Commit to volunteering for two, half-day monitoring shifts between Oct. and Feb.
  • Willing to work as a team; monitors work in groups of two or more.
  • Volunteers must be in good physical shape and willing to work outdoors in an off trail setting.
  • Experience with scientific protocol is helpful.
Training Dates and Information:

There will be a half-day field training session.
