Food Safety Training Requirements

Certified Food Protection Manager

All retail food facilities must have at least one person present who has taken a food protection manager training and passed the exam from an accredited program.

Certified Food Program Manager Certification Online Training & Exam

  • This online option satisfies the Certified Food Protection Manager requirement.

Food Handler Training

  • Great entry-level training for food handlers. The Colorado Food Code doesn’t require food handlers to complete a food safety course, but we highly recommend having all staff take this level of training.

Additional Approved Certified Food Protection Manager Trainings

  • These companies offer training that satisfies the certified food protection manager requirements.

Food Safety training (offered in English or Spanish) can be scheduled at your facility. An inspector will come to your restaurant and provide a training for your team. Class normally last between 2 to 2.5 hours. Class attendees will receive a food handlers training card. There is a $300 fee for the class.

This class is not accredited and does not count toward the required Certified Food Program Manager Certification. This is the basics of Food Safety.

Food Handler Manuals & Resources

These manuals and resources can be used to help you train staff to handle food safely.
