Program Summary:
The Boulder County Resource Conservation Division is seeking a Zero Waste Intern to support projects related to Boulder County’s goal of reaching zero waste or “darn near” by 2025. This internship will provide an introduction to a career in sustainability with opportunities to network, build skills, and learn how government works toward achieving community goals.
Hours are flexible, minimum 6-10 hours/week, unpaid. We can work with your educational institution to support internship credit if appropriate.
The position will work with and report to Resource Conservation Division staff at the Recycling Center in Boulder. Work will take place primarily in the office with the possibility of some field work.
Applications accepted until positions are filled for work during winter 2016 or spring 2017. Renewal for additional semesters is possible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement zero waste projects and provide education and outreach to staff and the greater community
- Research zero waste topics to inform policies and programs
- Implement and/or maintain systems of data collection
- Assist in developing and creating content for Facebook, Twitter, and internal communications
- Perform related work as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and contribute innovative solutions
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs
- Passion for or interest in learning about zero waste and sustainability
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
Desired Abilities and Qualities:
- Working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sociology, Education,Marketing, Communications, or related field
- Demonstrated community outreach experience
- Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex information
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience working with graphics and/or video editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience using social media platforms in a professional setting
