The Works Program volunteer provides administrative support for our syringe access and harm reduction services. The goal of the program is to reduce HIV and viral hepatitis transmission, and prevent overdose death among people who use drugs, and their partners. The program provides inclusive and supportive services in a non-judgmental setting that meets every person where they are at along the substance use continuum. The Works Program volunteer will work at the BCPH Longmont site. This position may also provide administrative support for our other sites in Boulder County.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assembles harm reduction kits for outreach and in-person service, including safer injection kits, safer smoking kits, wound care kits, safer sex kits, and harm reduction kits for our vending machine.
• Helps stock service rooms with supplies and keep them tidy.
• Assists Works Program staff with storage and organization of program supplies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Organized and able to follow instructions on putting together different types of kits.
- Reliable and able to work in person for weekly shifts.
- Able to communicate quickly with the team (within an hour) if they have any questions about tasks assigned for the shift
- Ability to communicate with the team if they are unable to attend weekly shift (call, text or email 24 hours before the shift).
- Ability to work independently completing tasks.
- Ability to work well in group and individual environments.
- Knowledge of substance use, harm reduction, treatment, and disease prevention preferred or willing to learn.
- Strong communication, empathy, and motivation to support people who use substances.
- Understanding the social determinants of health and their impact on substance use.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work respectfully with people in crisis and from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to work one or two 4-hour shifts per week between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
- Ability to lift 30lbs is preferred; however, assistance will be provided to move supply boxes around to complete a task, if needed.

- Volunteer will be oriented to the agency, staff, and programs.
- Volunteer will receive training on syringe access services and harm reduction education.
