Program Summary:
We are looking for hardy volunteers willing to hike steep, backcountry terrain to help pull this highly invasive weed. Join us for a unique volunteer experience as we join forces with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and the United States Forest Service, to work toward eradicating myrtle spurge in the Lefthand Canyon area.
You will be provided shuttles from a nearby parking area to the entry point of the work site — where you will begin your hike. You may work as long as you wish throughout the day. Shuttles will leave every hour to return to the parking area.
Myrtle spurge is a Colorado A List Species noxious weed, requiring eradication on all lands — public and private. It does well in poor, rocky, or sandy soils and thrives in full sun. It reproduces only by seed and is capable of projecting seeds up to 15 feet.
This plant is rapidly expanding into sensitive ecosystems, displacing native vegetation and reducing forage for wildlife. We need your help to protect Lefthand Canyon from this bad actor!
