The construction industry has some of the highest levels of responsibility regarding stormwater pollution prevention. During a short period of time, construction sites can contribute more sediment to streams than can be deposited naturally over several decades. By following construction permit requirements (Boulder County’s Stormwater Quality Permit (SWQP) and Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) General Permit for Stormwater Discharges of Construction Activities (if applicable)), you play an important role in protecting our community’s watersheds. During the initial inspection by Boulder County, the following topics will be covered:
- Introduction of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Stormwater Compliance Inspector and the Contractor’s team responsible for stormwater compliance. These introductions will encourage communication throughout the project.
- Expectations for site compliance discussion and main project pollutants identification. Pollutants like site trash will be covered.
- Enforcement that could occur if compliance is not maintained.
- Limits of construction, disturbance, and topsoil stripping will be confirmed.
- Final stabilization of the site will be reviewed and the MS4 Stormwater Compliance Inspector will review how to set up the required close out inspection needed for the SWQP.
- Initial inspection of control measures to determine compliance with permit, which will be verbally conveyed by the MS4 Compliance Oversight Inspector.
- After initial inspection has been satisfied and fees have been paid, the SWQP will be issued by email by the MS4 Compliance Oversight Inspector.
- Failing initial inspection will delay the issuance of the final SWQP until re-sinspection of compliance
The County looks forward to working with you on your project and assisting with keeping waterways free from construction pollutants. Questions about the SWQP and be directed to tdstormwater@bouldercounty.gov or call 303-441-3900.
