Residential Sustainability - EnergySmart

EnergySmart, Boulder County’s residential sustainability program, helps residents decarbonize their homes. As buildings are the county’s #1 source of greenhouse gas emissions, decarbonizing homes is critical to achieving our climate goals.

EnergySmart prioritizes two strategies for improving sustainability in homes: energy efficiency and electrification of fossil fuel technologies. In order to make this often-daunting task a bit more achievable, EnergySmart advisors can assist with insulation and air sealing, climate control and water heater electrification, solar panel installation, and transitioning to electric vehicles. Additionally, our advisors also connect you with any rebates or other financial incentives along the way. EnergySmart offers services in English and Spanish.

EnergySmart is a collaborative partnership with Boulder County, the City of Boulder, the City of Longmont, and local utilities Xcel Energy and Platte River Power Authority. Boulder County, the City of Boulder Climate Action Plan (CAP) tax, and the City of Longmont provide funding for the program.

Program History:

EnergySmart started with a $12.5 million, 3-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s BetterBuildings Program. Achieving its promised goals, EnergySmart served more than 10,000 homes and 3,000 businesses by the end of 2013. A portion of the original grant funds are still held in a loan-loss reserve, supporting a larger pool of financing for home and business energy improvements.
