North Foothills Safety For All Project

North Foothills Bikeway Project

The North Foothills Bikeway is a Boulder County initiative to build a dedicated biking and walking path along US 36 between Boulder and Lyons. The proposed bikeway will improve safety and comfort for cyclists of all ages on this busy corridor.

This road has more fatal crashes between cyclists and motorized vehicles than any other road in unincorporated Boulder County. A bikeway would greatly increase cycling safety and motor-free access to trails and connections to popular cycling routes. The bikeway will mostly be on public land next to the road.

Crash Data (2015-2024)

US 36 has been the site of 18 crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians in the ten years between 2015 and 2024. Crashes resulted in six fatalities and 13 injuries. the goal of this project is to create a safer separated path to decrease crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists and to relieve drivers’ stress passing cyclists.
