Each spring and summer, Boulder County Public Works’ Road Maintenance Division works to repair gravel roads throughout Boulder County. Some gravel roads are graded, while some go through a reclamation process.
What is Gravel Road Reclamation?
Gravel road reclamation strengthens the road by digging up the top few inches of the surface, mixing it with new material (including dust control solution) and reapplying it and compacting the gravel to essentially create a new surface. Through this process, we are able to create a stronger roadway surface that will last longer and is less susceptible to washboarding and erosion.
The following roads are planned to be reclaimed in 2021, weather and time permitting (see a map):
- Oxford Road between CO 119 and 73rd Street
- Nebo Road between N. 39th and US 36
- N. 39th between Neva and Nebo roads
- Ouray Road between Oxford and Nelson roads
- Prospect Road between Ouray/55th Street and N. 63rd Street
- Prospect Road between N. 63rd and N. 75th streets
