Program Summary:

Two cultural history sites feature period costumes worn by volunteer demonstrators and a hands-on try on area for visitors. A seamstress or tailor volunteer will work from period-appropriate patterns to make costumes and accessories.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use provided patterns and fabrics to sew period appropriate costumes for volunteers and staff.
  • Opportunity to research, shop for or locate appropriate patterns, fabric, and trimmings. Costs will be reimbursed.
  • Possibly assist with costume repairs, laundering, inventories, etc.
  • Sewing projects are to be completed at volunteer’s home or other site he/she arranges
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Must have access to sewing machine.
  • Basic knowledge of sewing necessary. Must be able to use a pattern to create clothing and measure and cut quantities of material needed.
  • Completed costumes are to be washed and ironed.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently
  • Passionate about local history
  • Knowledge in sewing and an interest in adapting that for use to interpret old fashioned life.
  • Must have personal transportation.
  • Pass criminal background check.
