Utica and Humbolt Paving in Ward

Utica Street/Humbolt Avenue Improvements Project for the Town of Ward

Boulder County Transportation is working with the Town of Ward to repave two of Ward’s roads – Humbolt Avenue/Old Depot Road & Utica Street. Both roads are in poor condition and sustained damage during the 2013 flood.

Project Scope/Improvements:

  • Reconstruction of 1/2 mile of Utica Street from the town limit to approximately 400 feet past Modoc Street.
  • Construction of a 15-foot high wall along the south side of Utica Avenue to prevent addition slope failure created by storm water runoff.
  • Replacement of the existing metal culvert under Columbia Avenue with a new concrete box culvert and installation of a wooden guardrail along the west side of Columbia Avenue.
  • Removal of the top layer of asphalt on Humbolt Street/Old Depot Road from the road two ends at SH 72, and improvements to the road’s crown in order to aid in water runoff.
  • Project Plans – Added March 12, 2018

Project Goals:

  • Repair damages from 2013 flood
  • Improve drainage along Utica Avenue
  • Reinforce the roadside embankment to keep it away from Indiana Gulch

Project funding comes from the Federal Highways and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery (HUD/CDBG-DR) Program.
