Boulder County Motor Vehicle Offices are Open - Appointments recommended
Due to COVID-19, our offices were closed from March-May 2020. All three branch offices reopened on June 1.
To reduce the risk of COVID-19, we still recommend that you complete your transaction online, if possible, at MyDMV.Colorado.gov. Services that can be completed online include:
- Registration renewals, even if late.* (Renewals may also be done at a MV Self-Service Kiosk)
- First-time registrations**
- Address changes
- Disability placard applications and renewals
- License plate requests
- And more!
* If you are unable to renew online because you need to provide proof of insurance, please see below.
** You will need a Title Complete Notice to complete a first-time registration online. (If the dealer sent the title paperwork to you directly or you made a private purchase, you will need to register your vehicle in-person.) If you have a Title Complete Notice but wish to reuse old license plates, please see below.
Contact our office before making an office visit – If you are unable to complete your transaction online, we may be able to help you over the phone (303.413.7710) or by email (motorvehicle@bouldercounty.org).
Appointments are recommended for in-person services. Make an appointment here.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions – Please be aware that you will be required to wear a mask while visiting any of our offices, including the MV Express Kiosk at the Boulder Clerk & Recorder. You will also be asked to follow social distancing protocols.
LATE FEE UPDATE: Due to COVID-19 closures earlier this year, the State Department of Revenue paused late fees for the months of March – June. If you renewed your registration at a kiosk or online, you may have been charged late fees for those months. The Department of Revenue will be reviewing and refunding these late fees, as applicable. They will mail refund checks out by the end of October 2020 to the mailing address on file.
Please note that late fees will still be charged for expired registrations outside of the March-June time frame. For example, if your registration expired in January 2020 and you renew in August, you would be charged late fees for two months (July and August – $50 total). You would not accrue late fees for February (your grace month) or March-June (when late fees were paused).
If you have not yet renewed an expired vehicle registration, please contact our office before renewing online or at a kiosk to ensure an inaccurate late fee is not applied: 303-413-7710 or motorvehicle@bouldercounty.org.
