Susan Steven

Susan Steven is a professional artist and retired art teacher from the St. Vrain Valley School District. She received her art education degree, with honors, from San Diego State University and the University of San Diego where she received the “Student of the Year” award. Susan taught art and photography at Skyline High School for 15 years then at Apex School, a program for home-school students who attend a public school once a week. She has also taught painting classes at Michael’s craft stores as well as many private classes and workshops.

Along with her teaching career, Susan is President of the Longmont Artist Guild, an active member of the Louisville Art Association and the Boulder Art Association. She has been on many art show committees, helped develop a STEM public school program, created school art clubs, and has coordinated student art exhibits over the last 25 years. She is grateful and proud to have taken high school students on an art history tour through England, Italy, and France.

Susan has been a professional, award-winning artist and art instructor for over 30 years in California, Alaska, Hawaii, and Colorado. Her artwork has sold all over the world including Japan, Germany, England, and France. She is very passionate about the arts and feels fortunate to know and work with so many other wonderful talented artists. You can often find Susan working in her art studio at home, traveling around the world visiting art museums and galleries, learning new techniques at art workshops, and spending time with her family, friends and her little rescue Maltese, Vinny Van Go.

Lindsay Jane Ternes

Lindsay is an award-winning en plein air painter based in Boulder, Colorado. After spending her first years of life in Billings and Bozeman, Montana, her family moved to Colorado Springs where she enjoyed a childhood spent exploring outdoors. Lindsay’s passion for art was apparent from a young age, and she double majored in Studio Art and Marketing at the University of Denver (DU) to equip herself for a future in fine art. While attending DU, Lindsay focused on figure painting, later falling even more madly in love with painting in nature during her study abroad program at The Marchutz School of Fine Arts in Aix-en-Provence. Her time in southern France greatly influences her scene selection and light interpretation today.

When Lindsay’s not braving the elements with a brush in-hand, she’s planning ski trips and backpacking adventures with her husband and two young daughters, trail running, and petting all the dogs she meets. She firmly believes, “Joy is made complete when it’s shared,” and is driven to express the delight she feels while playing in the mountains. When Lindsay isn’t painting around Boulder, the Indian Peaks Wilderness, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Summit County, you’ll find her in Glacier National Park each summer. Her work can be found at Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, Colorado, as well as Frame of Reference Fine Art in Whitefish, Montana.

Clare Scott

Clare Scott, from Lafayette, Colorado, is a committed soft pastel painter. This simple combination of pigment and binder allows her to focus on creating a painting that expresses her love of color.

Visual expression has been a driving force for Clare since her undergraduate years in the art department at Northern Illinois University. She came to Colorado from Chicago with an artistic preoccupation but a real occupation in the field of children and families, later earning her master’s in social work from the University of Denver. Once her job had been completed in that field, she returned to art. Clare’s friends and family say they haven’t seen someone transform themselves into a new role so completely as they have seen the transformation in her from clinical social worker to artist but, it was always there. She has continued her art education at the Arts Students League, art workshops and mentoring.

Painting en plein air informs her studio work by reminding her of the colors, shapes, atmosphere and the joy of just being in the middle of it all. Clare paints outside whenever possible and embraces the challenge of editing our great big world into a painting with which to share her vision and will resonate with others. Her goal is to create art which captures the moment, by using a painterly style of mark making that is loose and spontaneous, just like it feels when one is outside.

She has been juried into national art shows and national en plein air events and is represented by Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder.
