Firefighters in mop up mode from suspected human caused fire

Boulder County, Colo. -

At approximately 5:00 am on June 3, 2017, Boulder County Communications was notified of a large column of smoke near the base of the Third Flatiron on City of Boulder Open Space.

City of Boulder Fire and Rescue, City of Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space Rangers, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Wildland Fire Management responded and located a 1/10th of an acre in size wildfire burning in a large dead log on the ground. The fire was located approximately 100 feet off the Enchanted Mesa Trail within unincorporated Boulder County.

No Lightning was detected in the area over the past 48-hours, and due to the proximity to the trail the fire is being considered as human caused.

Fire crews will remain on scene mopping up the fire with an estimated control of 9:00 am today. Rangers and fire crews will return later today and tomorrow to check the area before finally calling the fire out.

Although Boulder County has received numerous days of moisture the fire danger remains moderate as fuels continue to dry with increasing warm temperatures and dry conditions. Please be vigilant while recreating outdoors by keeping your open fire activities limited to predesignated areas, or in areas where there is at least 30 feet of barren or non-flammable materials.
