Both the Rogers Fire and Wagonwheel Gap Fire are fully contained; mop-up efforts continue

Boulder County, Colo. - Firefighters continued to make progress with the two wind-driven wild fires that began yesterday morning.

ROGERS FIRE

The Rogers Fire began in the 5200 block of Rogers Road and consumed a total of 24 acres; it remains fully contained. Firefighters continued mop-up efforts throughout the day today. It was determined the fire remained on the landowner's property and did not extend onto any neighboring properties. Mop-up efforts may bring additional heavy smoke in the area at times, but the fire remains under control.

A total of ten outbuildings were destroyed and 28 animals were killed in the fast-moving fire (22 goats, five piglets, and one full-size pig). Investigators determined the fire originated from the northeast corner of the property at a slash pile that had been burned on January 5th. It is believed that the burned slash pile was still warm deep within and the remnants of the pile were reignited by yesterday's high winds.

WAGONWHEEL GAP FIRE

The Wagonwheel Gap Fire began in the 500 block of Wagonwheel Gap Road in Pinebrook Hills as the result of a downed powerline due to the high winds. No additional fire growth occurred overnight or throughout today. Firefighters continue to work the fire and were able to achieve full containment at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. No homes or structures were damaged or lost and all evacuation orders were rescinded early this morning. Fire crews will continue to work the interior of the fire and are expected to do so into Monday.
