UPDATE: Human remains found in Mud Lake Open Space near Nederland
Boulder County, Colo. - Investigators from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and
the Boulder County Coroner’s Office have received the results of an
anthropological examination of the remains found near Mud Lake Open Space
property in unincorporated Boulder County, near the Town of Nederland on
October 2, 2017.
As a result of the examination of the remains, we believe
they belong to a male between the ages of 30-60 years old and believe the
remains had not been in the environment for more than five years. There is no known match to current
missing person cases; however the investigation is still on-going.
Additional searches of the area where the remains were found
were undertaken last year with the assistance of the Front Range Rescue Dogs,
but no additional remains or evidence was located in the searches.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office is charged with making
formal identification of the decedent, as well as determining the cause and
manner of death. Additional information related to the decedent will be
released by the Coroner's Office.
Anyone with information they believe may assist in the
investigation is asked to contact Detective Mark Spurgeon at (303) 441-3615.
You can find more information about this case in the previously issued press release. The case number associated with this investigation is: 17-5782.
