Boulder County, Colo. - Everyone has an important tale to tell. While the stories of people who are prospering in Boulder County are well known – think rising home values and thriving tech companies -- there is another side. That’s where the (In)visible Boulder County project comes in. Through photographs and film, the project tells the stories of the less fortunate, the working poor, people facing discrimination, and many other unseen members of the community.

During June, the Front Range Community College campus in Longmont is hosting the (In)visible Boulder County
project. Photographs from the series are currently on display in both the Classroom and Administration buildings. On Thursday, June 22, the project film “Better” will be shown in the Community Room as part of a special lunchtime
event that is open to the public.

• Where: Front Range Community College Longmont Campus, Classroom Building at 2121 Miller Dr. & Administration Building at 2190 Miller Dr., Longmont
• Photo Dates and Time: Photo exhibit through Friday, June 30. Photos may be viewed 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays.
• Film Date and Time: Film will be shown at noon, Thursday, June 22, in the Community Room of the Classroom Building, 2121 Miller Dr.

“Front Range Community College is excited to be working with the (In)visible Boulder County project to share the incredible work this group has done’ says Amy Mann, Co-Chair of the BCC Diversity Committee and Campus Chair of Arts and Letters. “FRCC is dedicated to educating our students and our community about diversity, inclusivity, and presenting the stories of people in our county that we might not normally hear. The photo and film exhibit are ways
to share these important messages.”

The (In)visible Boulder County project was created by One Thousand Design as part of the Sonder Collection, in partnership with the Boulder County Community Services Department, and sponsored by the Boulder County Commissioners and other community partners. The project is designed to start a conversation around the county’s often marginalized and underserved populations, and include images and quotes from the homeless, immigrant, transgender, working poor and youth-in-crisis communities in the county. Here are just a few examples.

"Prior to divorce I was a PTA mom running my own little business, wife of an attorney - so upper middle class. And then you end up in situational poverty. One split second and life changed."

"You can't write homeless on an ID. And that makes it really difficult. Without an ID you can't do anything."

"The decisions people have to make when they're in poverty make sense because they are moment to moment decisions to deal with moment to moment problems. There's no way to really understand what it's like unless you are living it."

The project was produced in conjunction with the Boulder County Circles Campaign, Boulder County Head Start, Attention Homes, Emergency Family Assistance Association, Intercambio, Sister Carmen Community Center, and Out Boulder County.
