Attic fan probable cause of fire in single family home.

Boulder County, Colo. - On July 2, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Boulder County Sheriff's deputies and firefighters from the Hygiene and Lyons Fire Departments responded to a single family home in the 6200 block of Ephesus Road on the report of a fire in the attic.

A resident at the home reported that the smoke detector sounded and they found smoke coming from the attic. The attic fan was also reported to have been squealing for the past day. The three occupants evacuated the residence and waited for emergency personnel.

The fire was extinguished, contained to the attic and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation; however, at this time it is believed to have been caused by a malfunctioning attic fan. This incident is documented in Boulder County Sheriff's Office case report number 17-3772.
