Structure Fire
Homeowner and five dogs escape unharmed
Boulder County, Colo. - On 15 January 2018 at approximately 8:09 p.m. the Boulder County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reference a structure fire in the 700 block of Cougar Dr. The homeowner advised her wood burning stove was on fire and had spread to the ceiling. The 63 year old female evacuated the home with her five dogs. She was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene. Firefighters from Rocky Mountain Fire Protection District, Louisville Fire Department, Boulder Rural Fire Protection District and Boulder County Sheriff's Office deputies responded.
Firefighting efforts were hampered by the single digit temperatures and a long, narrow, steep driveway covered with snow and ice. At the time of this media release the extent of the damage is unknown but it is likely extensive. Firefighters will remain on scene through most of the night. The fire did spread to some surrounding trees in the immediate area of the house but no other structures are threatened.
Advocates from the Sheriff's Office also responded to assist the homeowner.
Rocky Mountain Fire Protection District is responsible for determining the cause and origin of the fire.
The sheriff's case number is 18-257.
