Recruitment now open for People Engaged in Raising Leaders training

Register by Sept. 23

Boulder County, Colo. - People from the county’s diverse communities are encouraged to apply to learn about the inner workings of boards and commissions.The People Engaged in Raising Leaders (PERL) program was developed to
increase the number people of color, or individuals with low income, on local boards
and commissions. Participants learn
about leadership development, communication styles, budgeting, fundraising, and
more.

The next PERL training program begins Oct. 4. This 10-week
session will focus on connecting community members with non-profit
organizations and commissions ready to embrace inclusion.

What: PERL Board Leadership Training
When: Tuesdays, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 4 - Dec.
13 (10 sessions)
Cost: Free, Register by Sept. 23
Where: Sundquist Building, Baltic North Room, 3482 Broadway, Boulder
Who: Boulder County Residents
Why: While 20% of county residents identify as a
person of color, only 7% of municipal board and commission members are a person
of color.

The pool of people of color,
and individuals with low-income, interested in participating on boards and commissions is low.
PERL training, part of Boulder County’s Community Action Programs, aims to change
this statistic. Through increased outreach, training efforts, and
collaborations, the PERL program will help fill a niche to more authentically
represents the diversity that exists in Boulder County.
