It's time once more for the Lavender Gala, our annual fundraiser and winter celebration!
|
We are at Nissi's again this year, on Dec. 3 from 1-4p.m. Also back by popular demand is our usual emcee, Eda Bagel, whose gracious hosting will be accented by a lovely musical backdrop provided by local jazz musicians, Otto Koch and Steve Johnson. Susie Pringle, of the Dancin' Divas will also be joining us for fun and lively dance instruction, and as always, we will have a plethora of door prize baskets from a variety of local service providers and supportive community members.
We strive to make the Lavender Gala fun and also affordable-- Tickets are on sale NOW, $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
If you or your organization/business would like to contribute a door prize basket of goods/services, there's still time if you email Beit by Nov. 10 to make arrangements (basket pick up is Dec. 1).
Grab your tickets now, spread the word, and SEE YOU THERE!

For almost 20 years, the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) has highlighted the tragically increasing losses our communities face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. in 1998, Gwendolyn Ann Smith created a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in an anti-trans hate crime. Each year, we gather in community to hold vigils and read the names of the lives we've lost in the previous 12 months and each year the list grows longer. Anti-trans violence is escalating, especially toward transgender women of color, and we've begun to add events of advocacy and education in an effort to stem the tide of violence in our community with Transgender Awareness Week (Nov. 14-20).
Out Boulder County is hosting our local TDoR on Nov. 20 at the Old Courthouse on Pearl St. from 6-9p.m. and is also providing a week of awareness events beginning with a special screening of Major! at the Dairy Arts Center.
For some, the TDoR can be a time of collective mourning, healing, and community connection. For others, it can trigger trauma responses to attend, due to the underlying message of increased violence against trans folks that reinforces feelings of isolation and terror. For many, participating in community dinners and other events can be points of connection that don't directly invoke rising trends of violence. Regardless of your relationship to the TDoR, please use the resources below for additional support as needed and prioritize decisions to participate that enhance your self-preservation and general well-being.
