Boulder County Land Use Code Floodplain Regulations

On Sept. 1, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing on proposed amendments to the Boulder County Land Use Code floodplain regulations, which include updates to Land Use Code Article 4-400 and related provisions which govern the Floodplain Overlay District. The Commissioners voted to table adoption to allow additional time for public review and comment.

No changes to the floodplain maps which define the floodplain overlay district will occur as part of this regulatory update. The proposed updates only affect unincorporated areas of Boulder County.

The Board of County Commissioners will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to discuss the comments received and actions taken since the Sept. 1 hearing. Public testimony will NOT be taken at this meeting, but the public may submit written comments on DC-15-0004 via email using the Boulder County Ask a Planner Form.

Background

In the proposed amendments, the county has created transparent processes for use of new flood hazard studies and best available flood hazard data, clarified existing federal, state, and county regulatory requirements, streamlined permitting for minor projects, and added development criteria to better protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of and visitors to the unincorporated areas of Boulder County.
