Burn will take place Fri., Sept. 1, and/or Sat., Sept. 2, weather permitting

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Fire Management Program plan to resume a prescribed burn at Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain beginning Fri., Sept. 1 and/or Sat., Sept. 2.

The park will be closed completely during active ignition days. Specific areas will reopen as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so by fire personnel.

The prescribed burn will cover approximately 120 acres and is located near the Eagle Wind Loop Trail. This burn is part of the Arapaho Prescribed Burn Project. Additional acres may be burned at the preserve through Sept. 8. Approximately 170 acres were burned earlier in the month.

Firefighting resources will remain on the prescribed burn until the fire is confirmed as being controlled by significant weather conditions or determined to be out. The project area is well contained by trails and roads. Fire hoses and fire engines will completely surround the area during the duration of the burn.
