North 71st Street flood recovery reconstruction project starts May 18

Road closed to through traffic between Highway 52 and Lookout Road

Boulder County, Colo. - In
order to accommodate a flood recovery-related culvert installation project at
Boulder/Lefthand Ditch, Boulder County Transportation will need to fully close
71
st Street between Highway 52 and Lookout Road starting at 8 a.m.
on Thursday, May 18. The road closure will be in effect 24-hours per day, seven
days per week until Friday, June 16, weather permitting.

71st Street Residential and
Business Access During Construction

  • 71st
    Street access to Mt. Sherman, Mt. Meeker, and Glacier View roads into Gunbarrel
    Estates will be from the south off of Lookout Road
  • 71st
    Street access to Winchester Circle and the Gunbarrel Technical Center will be from
    the north off of Highway 52
  • 71st
    Street access to the multi-use Longmont-to-Boulder Trail from the south off of
    Lookout Road – Trail will remain open to bikes and pedestrians during
    construction.

The
culvert that currently carries Lefthand/Boulder Ditch under 71st
Street will be upsized to accommodate higher flows and to help mitigate roadway
overtopping during future flood events.
