Lefthand Canyon construction update
Hello Boulder County Transportation listserv subscriber -
Here are a few updates on the flood recovery-related reconstruction of Lefthand Canyon Drive that will be in effect from today (June 29) through next Friday, July 8.
US 36 to Olde Stage Road
There are currently three active construction sites in this stretch of road. Flaggers are being used to move cyclists and motor vehicles safely around these work zones between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Delays are typically no longer than five minutes at each spot, but they can be a bit longer depending on what is taking place at any given time in each area. The road is gravel in each of these stretches and in a few other spots where work has started, but is not currently active. Please use caution and obey any traffic signal or signage that is in place. Construction will continue in this stretch for the foreseeable future.
Olde Stage Road to James Canyon Drive
Work continues to take place in this stretch, mainly in the lower section just west of Olde Stage Drive where crews continue rock excavation and road widening activities. Travel will continue to be delayed for 30-minutes between 6 and 8 a.m. and 4 and 6 p.m., and 1-hour delays will be in place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Plans for guardrail installation in this stretch are almost ready and crews hope to begin work on this phase of the project in the coming weeks. The contractor is waiting for the guardrail work to be complete before paving this stretch because there is worry that the installation of guardrail would damage the asphalt on a freshly paved roadway.
James Canyon Drive to Lee Hill Drive - NEW
The contractor plans on beginning streambank stabilization work in this stretch of Lefthand Canyon Drive as early as Friday of this week, but most likely starting Tuesday, July 5. Crews are confident that they will be able to keep traffic moving through this area with the use of flagging personnel and that delays, if any, will be minimal.
Lee Hill Drive to Lickskillet Drive
Work in this stretch is anticipated to start soon, but an exact date is still unknown because the easements needed to complete construction are still going through the negotiation process. I promise to let you know as soon as I hear more from Kelley Trucking or Central Federal Lands about when work will commence in this area.
No work on Monday, July 4 in observation of the Independence Day Holiday. No work will take place on Saturdays or Sundays throughout the duration of the project. Construction personnel will remain on-hand on weekends and holidays to ensure the road is passable at all times and to do their best to keep the dust down.
I hope you all have a good remainder of the week and a great holiday weekend.
Sincerely,
Andrew
