Boulder County Parks & Open Space with the Town of Superior will be celebrating the completion of the Hodgson-Harris Dam Reconstruction Project on August 11 at 3 p.m.
Please join us to celebrate the return of an important agricultural water storage system that also provided valuable wildlife and wetland habitat. The reservoir stores water for the popular pumpkin patch at the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm.
The historic reservoir was constructed in 1882 to store irrigation water. Water fill restrictions were put in place in 1995 when a routine inspection revealed the aging dam needed repairs to comply with state standards. Due to the project, improved dam stability has allowed for the maximum water fill of the reservoir. Various wildlife species are now repopulating the area.
There will be light refreshments and a brief ceremony near the reservoir along Shamrock Drive near Saddle Brooke.
