Presentation followed by hands-on map review with state and county staff

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder
County Transportation and the State of Colorado will host a public meeting to
present recently updated draft floodplain maps from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) and the Colorado Hazard Mapping Program (CHAMP). This
initial meeting will review map information for North and South St. Vrain
creeks and St. Vrain Creek from Longmont Dam Road and Red Gulch Road to Lyons
and from Lyons east toward Airport Road in unincorporated Boulder County.
Residents along these creek stretches and other interested parties are invited
to attend a public presentation that will be followed by an interactive map
review session with state and county staff.

Boulder
County and CHAMP staff will answer questions and gather feedback from meeting
attendees. Boulder County wants the draft maps to accurately reflect local flood
risk, which is why residents living along these creeks are encouraged to be
involved and provide input at this stage. Comments gathered will be evaluated
and provided to the state team for their consideration during their next round
of floodplain modeling.

CHAMP
was established by the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) after the 2013
Flood to enable the state to take steps toward long-term planning and
resiliency efforts for flooding and other natural hazards like erosion and

draft floodplain maps for these stretches of creek are available at the county’s
Floodplain Remapping Website where people can also learn more about purchasing
flood insurance, the county’s outreach efforts, and how the public can get involved.
Boulder County will host additional meetings for review of maps in other unincorporated
areas in early 2017. These meetings will be announced on the county website, the county calendar, in newsletters,
via the project listserv, social media (Facebook and Twitter), and through the
various Watershed Coalitions.
