Boulder County, Colo. - Did you know that one-in-three Coloradans have pre-diabetes? Left untreated, pre-diabetes can raise the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The good news is that the Diabetes Prevention Program, offered by Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), can offer skills to help prevent these serious complications.
What: Diabetes prevention informational session
When: Info session Tuesday, April 11, 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. Classes start April 25
Where: Boulder County Sundquist Building, 3482 Broadway, Boulder
To find out if you qualify for this program, call 303-441-3599 or email mpruitt@bouldercounty.org.
The Prevention Program is a year-long program meeting weekly for six months, and then once or twice per month for the second six months. The class is offered without charge to eligible participants. Call or email for more details.
Lois, a program participant, says, “I really like the comradery of the class. We are all pre-diabetic so we are there for the same purpose. The handouts and other information we get each week are very helpful.”
While one third of Colorado residents are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes in the next six years, many people are unaware of the problem. The only way to know for sure is to check with your doctor. If you have pre-diabetes, the AAA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can make a profound difference. It offers:
- A proven behavior change program developed by the Centers for Disease Control
- A trained lifestyle coach to provide support and guidance to the group
- Skill building to lose weight, become more physically active, and manage stress
