Dementia friendly musical performance by high school students, Saturday, Jan. 20

A musical engagement opportunity for those with dementia and their caregivers

Boulder County, Colo. A special performance for older adults with dementia and their care partners will be given by high school music honors students on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Lafayette Senior Center. This event is being hosted by the senior center, in conjunction with Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, and Peak to Peak Charter School. There is no charge to attend, but seating is limited. The performance lasts less than one hour, with time for mingling following the entertainment. This event is part of a dementia friendly community initiative taking place in Lafayette.

While sharing music is meaningful for all, research has specifically shown that it provides a profound avenue for engagement and satisfaction for people with dementia. This includes positive impacts on alertness, mood, engagement, and cognition. Caregivers find connection, community, a sense of normalcy, and positive support for their relationship with their loved one.
