Boulder County, Colo. - The
Boulder County Commissioners will host two dedication ceremonies on Wednesday,
May 31, to rename both the Parks & Open Space Administrative Building in
Longmont and Rabbit Mountain Open Space near Lyons to include the name of Ron
Stewart, the county’s long-time and recently retired Parks & Open Space
Director.

Ron
Stewart retired from Boulder County in September 2016 following 39 years of
service in various capacities with Boulder County Government: Five years as a
Parks & Open Space Advisory Committee member, 20 years as a County
Commissioner, and 17 years as the Director of Parks & Open Space.

"Current
and future generations are indebted to Ron Stewart for the enduring legacy of
protected open space he helped envision and create,” said Boulder County
Commissioner, Elise Jones. “Our beautiful and beloved preserved lands are a
defining character of our county and a chief reason many find Boulder County
such an outstanding place to live and visit."

The
Board of County Commissioners have stated that the Parks and Open Space Administrative Building–where key open space planning, preservation, and maintenance coordination occurs every day, and Rabbit Mountain Open Space–a popular hiking destination for all ages, both embody Ron’s spirit and his leadership in the long term
rural preservation of Boulder County.

Board
of County Commissioners Chair, Deb Gardner, added “We are honored to be able to
dedicate two very important embodiments of Ron’s nearly 40-year legacy
of preserving open space in Boulder County to the man who helped make them
possible."

Light refreshments will be served and a nature hike will be offered following the dedication ceremony and unveiling of the new signage at the Ron
Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Space.

the crown jewel in the reflection of this county’s deeply-rooted culture for
preserving history and natural spaces,” said County Commissioner Cindy Domenico.
“It's only fitting that these two special places should bear his name as evidence
of his dedication to long term public service and to preserving land and open
spaces for generations to come.”
