Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space staff will host a St. Vrain Creek Reach 3 Flood Recovery Project kick-off meeting from on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Longmont.

This stream project is located east of Lyons and west of Longmont. The approximate project boundaries are U.S. 36 to the west, Ute Highway (SH-66) to the north, N. 75th St. to the east, and Hygiene Road to the south.

The project selected repair locations from within the 4-mile reach of St. Vrain Creek “Reach 3” as referenced in the St. Vrain Creek Watershed Master Plan. This area was severely damaged by the 2013 Flood due to a number of stream bank breaches and concentrated flow in areas of the floodplain.

Along 1.5 miles of creek the following work will be done:

• Repair four of the nine stream breaches (1, 2, 6, and 7a, see map) to reduce the risk of future catastrophic failure;
• Remove the metal and concrete debris left behind by the flood;
• In select areas, restore, grade, and shape the channel to minimize future erosion;
• Restore riparian vegetation to areas stripped bare by the flood.

County staff and design representatives along with members of the construction team from American Civil Constructors (ACC) Mountain West Division will provide an overview of the project, including phasing/schedule and anticipated hauling routes. A question-and-answer session will follow the project introduction.
