Boulder County seeking public comment on Sustainable Agriculture Research and Innovation Initiative

Comments are due by Friday, Dec. 30.

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space is seeking public comment on the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Innovation Initiative (SARII) Draft Scoping & Envisioning Document and the corresponding Draft Request For Proposal. The RFP will allow the county to hire a contractor to help establish and implement SARII for the next ten years.

Given the interest in this initiative as a concept, Boulder County invites input to help shape and inform the vision and initial steps towards implementation.

SARII will explore local sustainable agriculture questions in order to provide technical and practical information to farmers, food systems stakeholders, and the broader community. SARII will also enhance the advancement and application of sustainable agriculture in Boulder County.

On Nov. 30 the Board of County Commissioners approved a timeline for phasing out genetically engineered crops on county-owned agricultural land. Part of that transition guidance includes launching the new initiative. More background information is available at the website below.

The public is invited to review the draft documents and submit comments at BoulderCountyOpenSpace.org/croplandpolicy. Comments are due by Friday, Dec. 30.
