Boulder County releases new video: Parks & Open Space Founders’ Legacy

Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Parks & Open Space department recently premiered a 15-minute Founders’ Legacy video which tells the story about the early years of the department. This video demonstrates the forethought and effort which went in to preserving the open space that we cherish today. The video is available at www.BoulderCountyOpenSpace.org/founders.

The preservation of Boulder County’s open space land began as part of the ethic of conservation that started in the 1970s. The beginning of the open space advocacy had many ups and downs between the 1970s and early 1990s including failed sales tax measures.

Today, public opinion surveys indicate that the public is overwhelmingly in favor of the open space program. County open space properties receive approximately 1.5 million visits each year, and thousands volunteer their time and talents to help with the management and improvement of the land.
