Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County has joined the Workplace Charging Challenge to
promote and showcase Electric Vehicle charging stations at the workplace. This
partnership comes following Boulder County’s plan to install eight new electric
vehicle charging ports at Boulder County worksite campuses. These new ports
will help further develop the national plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging network.

The Workplace Charging Challenge is a collaborative effort
between the Department of Energy and interested employers to increase the number
of employers in the U.S. which offer workplace charging by tenfold in the next
five years. The Challenge also supports the broader efforts of the Department
of Energy’s EV Everywhere Grand Challenge, announced by President Obama in
March 2012, to make PEVs as affordable and convenient for the American family
as gasoline-powered vehicles.

“By becoming a part of the Workplace Charging Challenge, Boulder
County hopes to not only showcase and expand our existing electric vehicle charging
infrastructure, but also to lead by example and pave the way for other
organizations to follow suit,” said Susie Strife, Sustainability Coordinator
for Boulder County.

Boulder County has conducted internal surveys to get feedback
about employees’ commuter preferences and needs. The county found that a
significant number of employees would be interested in purchasing an electric
vehicle within the next two years if they have a place to charge the vehicle at
work.
